Blacksmithing: You’ll learn the tools and metal properties needed to produce beautiful artwork. Members of the Northern Minnesota Metal Workers Club will assist you in basic metal forming techniques and give you basic information on heating and beating steel. You’ll learn the “who’s who” of blacksmithing in our area and how to become more involved in the hobby. A perfect opportunity for the beginner and a fun ½ day for the novice.
Period Correct Advanced Grain Separation Technologies: You’ll get to see the parts of a separator laid out and explained to you in detail as to their function. There will also be many diagrams of separation technologies that were introduced early on and which ones were successfully put into practice. No more standing next to a threshing machine and wondering “what’s going on in there?”. You’ll be able to explain all the parts and their function. Furthermore, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with your instructors during the show and tour the field threshing area discussing what you learned in class. Perfect for the hobby threshing show attendee, someone wanting to restore a machine or just become more aware of the inner workings of a separator.
Stationary Internal Combustion Engine Maintenance and Operation: You’ll learn about hit-and-miss governors, engine timing, and control. Magnetos and coil firing will be discussed in detail. Fuel systems and the parts that need maintenance to make your engine run well are covered. You’ll also learn where to go for parts, accessories and anything else needed to restore an engine. Perfect for the beginner wanting to know the basics of these old engines and the technologies that made them so reliable. Excellent source of information and knowledge for the novice wanting to restore “Grandpa’s engine” or “one that sits behind the barn”.
